Happy New Year šŸŖ©

My new yearā€™s resolution? Donā€™t let newsletter operators overcomplicate their landing pages in 2025.

Today, youā€™ll get DOā€™s and DONā€™Ts for your newsletter landing page to increase your conversion rate.

Letā€™s dive in šŸ‘‡ļø

The #1 Landing Page Mistake šŸ«

People overcomplicate landing pages.

Less is more.

Clear is kind.

Simple converts.

I spent hours building and iterating on this beautiful, in depth landing page.

Conversion rate = 82%

custom landing page

While thatā€™s an insane conversion rate, I chalked it up to the crisp value prop and hard work I put in:

  • making it visually beautiful

  • creating custom screenshots

  • including detailed testimonials

  • recording a high-quality video explaining the value prop

While our landing page was killing it, we knew simplicity was powerful.

So we tested beehiivā€™s native landing page builder against our custom one.

It looks like this (thereā€™s literally nothing else on the page) šŸ‘‡ļø

Conversion rate in the last 30 days = 84%

8 Tips for a High Converting Landing Page šŸ“ˆ

If you want to convert 60%+ of people who come to your landing page into subscribers, follow the tips below.

When you run traffic to a newsletter landing page, itā€™s not about convincing.

Itā€™s about helping people to execute a decision they already made.

(aka not messing it up)

If your ad (if paid) or post (if organic) was compelling enough for them to click through to the landing page, it should be compelling enough for them to sign up.

Some DOā€™s and DONā€™Ts

DO šŸ‘ļø

  • DO only give people one decision to make when they are on your landing page:

subscribe or close out the window.

  • DO make the core result/benefit/outcome the first thing peopleā€™s eyes see (e.g., make it the largest font). Use specific numbers and outcomes. Describe how it will tangibly save people time, money, or effort.

  • DO keep everything above the fold on mobile (85%+ from cold traffic will be on their phones). Note that for beehiiv newsletters, the phone screenshot/image will not be visible on mobile.

  • DO repeat the value proposition from the ad copy/caption. Some people feel like this is repetitiveā€¦It is. Thatā€™s the point. This is the main reason why people are on your landing page, and it will be the main reason people sign up.

DONā€™T šŸ™…

I see massive companies doing these and it hurts my soul. Weā€™ve even had to coach some of our larger clients on them.

All of them will lead to lower conversion rates:

  • DONā€™T make people scroll to see the sign up form where they enter their email.

  • DONā€™T say fluffy words that mean nothing.

    • Fluffy: Crush It On Instagram

    • Not fluffy: Get Your Next 1000 Instagram Followers In Less Than 10 Min/Day

  • DONā€™T say too much. Less is more. Communicate as concisely as possible. Look at your landing page and see if you can reduce word count without taking away from the value proposition.

  • DONā€™T use a normal page on your website (that has navigation links). Thatā€™s a webpage, not a true landing page.

  • DONā€™T include links to other pages or past content (disable the ā€œlet me read it firstā€ button)

where you can disable ā€œlet me read it firstā€ in beehiiv

Itā€™s not rocket science. Just basic human psychology.

The more effort something is to do, the less likely it is people will do it.

More friction (scrolling, choices, reading, distraction) = fewer conversions

Fewer choices (subscribe or donā€™t) = more conversions

Weā€™ve seen a 5% increase in landing page conversion rate for our clients translate to thousands more subscribers per month with the same ad spend.

Itā€™s a one-time change that compounds over time.

So go check your landing page and run it up against this list šŸ«”
